We’re partnering with The Center for Childhood Development
Are you struggling with an ADHD diagnosis or suspecting a diagnosis? This workshop is a great opportunity to talk with a developmental optometrist and occupational therapist about symptoms and management. We'll have discussions with:
Neil Renaud OD, FAAO, COVD, a board-certified and residency trained developmental optometrist that specializes in optometric vision therapy.
Molly Buist OTR/L has been in Occupational Therapy for 31 years. She is the owner and clinical director at The Center for Childhood Development that she founded in 2004.
Dr. Neil will discuss the modern visual demands of the classroom, and how some students' vision hinders academic performance and attention. 80% of learning comes through our visual sense, and 1 in 4 students struggle with intense near vision tasks like reading, homework, and tests. He'll discuss how developmental vision problems interfere with ability to read, learn, comprehend, and pay attention. You'll learn observable signs and symptoms of a child who may have learning-related vision problems, simple at-home screening tests, and what to do next.
Molly will talk about how Occupational Therapy can support and facilitate optimum performance in children with motor and vision issues. She will talk about how our senses, primarily our vestibular sense, impact not just our motor skills but our entire nervous system. She will discuss how the vestibular-visual-auditory systems work together to provide kids with a sense of safety and a better awareness of their bodies in space both motorically and relationally. She will briefly discuss how this impacts attention, emotional regulation and social connection.
